Technology giant Microsoft has begun blocking internal emails containing the words "Palestine," "Gaza," or "genocide" amid internal discontent and pressure from activists, according to the No Azure for Apartheid movement, which unites employees of the company who support Palestine.
According to the group, an automated filter has been activated on Microsoft's Exchange servers, which blocks the delivery of emails with such content without notice. The filter was discovered this week after Microsoft's annual Build developer conference, which was repeatedly interrupted by activist protests.
Amid the ongoing attacks in Gaza, dissatisfaction is growing within Microsoft over the company's cooperation with the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the government. Employees complain that the company provides cloud services and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure that, according to allegations, are used in military operations.
According to the No Azure for Apartheid movement, the terms "Israel" or "Palestine" will not be blocked.
Microsoft has not yet responded.
