Google has introduced simultaneous speech translation to its Meet video calling service. The Gemini neural network powers the feature.
The feature, based on Gemini, was introduced at the Google I/O conference. The American company claims that the translation generated by artificial intelligence will preserve the user’s voice, intonation, and expression.
The feature is available in beta for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. In Google’s demo video, a native English speaker is chatting with a Spanish-speaking colleague on Google Meet. When the interlocutors turn on Gemini’s translation, the service begins to transcribe what they say.
At the moment, Meet only supports English and Spanish translations. In the coming weeks, Google promises to add support for Italian, German, and Portuguese.
