Mercedes to move GLC production to the US

Mercedes-Benz Group AG has confirmed that it plans to move production of the GLC model to the United States in response to Trump’s tariffs.

As Bloomberg reports, Mercedes plans to start production of the model at its Alabama plant in late 2027.

German automakers have been hit hardest by Trump’s 25% import tariffs. At the same time, the US market remains attractive to companies such as Mercedes, BMW, and Porsche, as there is high demand for SUVs there, and electric cars are not yet very popular.

The GLC model starts at $50,000 in the US market. Last year, Mercedes sold 64,163 such cars in the US, which is 58% more than in 2023.
