China has begun commercial operation of flying taxis (VIDEO)

The South China Morning Post reports that Chinese companies EHang Holdings and Hafei Hey Airlines have received licenses to operate flying taxis. Both companies can use drones for commercial passenger transportation, including city sightseeing tours.

The license allows them to offer paid services such as low-altitude sightseeing and city air transportation using the EH216-S passenger drone developed by EHang. It can carry two passengers at a maximum speed of 130 km/h and a range of 35 km.

No exact launch date has been announced, but Chinese authorities see low-altitude aviation as a key industry for the future. The market is expected to grow to $207 billion this year.
