According to a press release published on its website, the Finnish company Nokia failed its first attempt to make a call from the Moon.
As part of the Intuitive Machines IM-2 mission, the company was supposed to make the first call from the Moon using equipment delivered to the surface of the Earth's natural satellite. Experts reported on the successful delivery of equipment to the Moon but noted that the first test call failed.
"Nokia was unable to make the first mobile call on the Moon due to significant power limitations caused by the orientation of the Athena lander's solar panels after landing," the corporation said.
The company noted that it had demonstrated that the mobile equipment could be successfully activated to receive commands from the control center. All components—the base station, the radio, and the network core—were working as they should. "If our device modules had been functional, we would have been able to make the first mobile call on the Moon in history," said Nokia representative Thierry E. Klein.
