The Verge Reports that the driverless Maserati MC20 Coupe "supercar" has set a new speed record in the United States, reaching a speed of up to 318 km / h.
This unmanned "supercar" set the record on the 4.5 km-long runway at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It was controlled by an artificial intelligence-based autopilot developed by engineers from the Technical University of Milan and the Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC) startup.
The Maserati MC20 Coupe surpassed the record set by the IAC's experimental AV-21 car in 2022 ․ at that time, reaching a speed of up to 309 km / h.
It is noted that the Maserati MC20 Coupe previously reached a speed of up to 285 km / h. The supercar can be controlled both by software and by a live pilot.
"The rapid tests aim to evaluate the behavior of robot drivers in extreme conditions," said Sergio Matteo Savaresi, a professor at the Technical University of Milan.
According to him, during the tests, scientists assessed the artificial intelligence's stability, reliability, and speed of response. This data can be used to improve traffic safety on public roads in the future.
