China to launch "artificial sun"

Bloomberg reports that China plans to introduce thermonuclear fusion technology by 2050 to generate clean energy.

Light atomic nuclei are converted into heavier ones during this process, releasing much energy. This mechanism underlies the operation of the Sun and other stars. Unlike traditional nuclear energy, which is based on splitting atomic nuclei, the thermonuclear reaction does not produce radioactive waste and is considered a virtually inexhaustible energy source.

The Chinese facility, called the "Artificial Sun," is a "tokamak," a device that uses powerful magnetic fields to contain superheated plasma and maintain thermonuclear reactions.

However, China is actively increasing its scientific and technological efforts to become a leader in this field. By 2030, China may overtake the United States and France to become the world's largest nuclear power.
