OpenAI has blocked a number of Chinese users

ChatGPT creator OpenAI has imposed restrictions on several Chinese users who were found to have used artificial intelligence for malicious purposes. According to Le Monde, a security report by OpenAI published on February 21 states that these users had developed a social media monitoring tool to detect calls for protests for the Chinese government. ChatGPT was also used to spread disinformation.

OpenAI’s security team uncovered these activities by analyzing ChatGPT's use cases. After studying certain accounts in China and being active during business hours in China, the company found that they had created a program that analyzed messages on Facebook, X, YouTube, Instagram, Telegram, and Reddit in real time. The program’s goal was to detect calls for protests aimed at protecting human rights.

The company called this tool “Peer Review” and said it was designed to report such messages to the Chinese authorities and embassies abroad.
