The Daily Mail reports that the asteroid "2024 YR4", discovered in December 2024, can collide with Earth in 2032 and destroy several cities.
According to scientists, in the event of a collision with the planet, an explosion with the equivalent of 8-15 megatons of TNT could occur. "This is more than 500 times the power of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima."
Experts noted the consequences of the fall of "2024 YR4" in a densely populated city.
The shock wave will destroy most of the buildings within a radius of 13.7 km from the explosion's epicenter. If the asteroid hits central London, the blast wave will shatter windows and throw people 40 km away.
Experts estimate that if an asteroid hits New York, almost all city buildings will be destroyed, right up to the Bronx. If 2024 YR4 hits Tokyo, nearly all city residents will be at risk. Scientists do not yet know what orbit the asteroid will fly in.
NASA reported that the probability of an asteroid colliding with Earth has increased to 3.1%.
