Ensuring outer space security has become a priority issue for the world today. Reuters informs Radar Armenia.
According to the media, the rapid growth of space traffic and the accumulation of satellites threaten the safety of low Earth orbit.
According to the US company Slingshot Aerospace, more than 14,000 satellites are currently in low Earth orbit, of which 3,500 are inactive. There are about 120 million pieces of debris in space, only a few thousand of which are large enough to track.
Aarti Holla-Maine, director of the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs, stresses that there is no time to lose control of space traffic and that public and private operators must share information to prevent potential collisions.
Currently, there are barriers to information sharing, with various countries and companies reluctant to share data due to security and trade secrets.
This area is considered the most fragmented human activity essential for global communication, navigation, and scientific research. According to Slingshot Aerospace, satellite approaches have increased by 17% in recent years. This again emphasizes international cooperation and information on the importance of open exchange to outer space security.
