Apple plans to equip almost all its products with its Wi-Fi chip in about three years. MacRumors reports that the move will reduce the company's component costs and strengthen hardware and software integration.
All current iPhone models have Broadcom's combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip, but there are already iPhone 16 models that have Wi-Fi 7 with some limited specs. However, the iPhone 17 will already have a built-in Wi-Fi chip from Apple with support for the latest version of Wi-Fi 7.
The chip will be manufactured using TSMC's 7nm process, known as N7. This confirms reports that the iPhone 17 Pro models will be equipped with an Apple-developed Wi-Fi 7 chip, which will be introduced in the entire iPhone 18 line next year.
Apple is also expected to release its 5G chip next year, starting with at least the next iPhone SE.
