The updated data on the company's official website in the country evidenced that, since the beginning of this year, the American company Tesla has lowered the prices of the Model Y and Model 3 electric cars assembled in China.
The price of the basic configuration of the Model Y crossover in Chinese stores has been reduced from 316.9 thousand yuan ($44.6 thousand) to 288.9 thousand yuan ($40.6 thousand).
The contract for the construction of the Tesla factory in Shanghai was signed in July 2018. The facility's first phase in Lingang District, Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone, was completed in just one year by the end of 2019. The total investment in this project will be about 7 billion dollars.
The Shanghai plant assembles the Model 3 sedan and the Model Y crossover. Since October 2020, the Chinese-made Model 3 has been exported to European countries, namely Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands, and Norway. In 2021, more than 484,000 electric vehicles were assembled at this enterprise, with an annual increase of 235%.
