Xabi Alonso has been dismissed from his position as head coach of Real Madrid. The decision was made by mutual consent. The club's official website reports this.
It is noted that former club player Alvaro Arbeloa will head the "royal club". Arbeloa played for Real Madrid from 2004 to 2006 and from 2009 to 2016.
"We would like to thank Xabi Alonso and his coaching staff for their hard work and dedication during this time and wish them success in this new phase of their lives," the club said in a statement.
The Madrid team lost 2:3 to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup match on Tuesday.
