At the traditional Asian Karate Championship held in Tashkent, the Armenian team won the champion title, with two-time European and world champion Narek Iskandaryan (kata, kumite), European champions Erik Hovsepyan (kata) and Hovhannes Hakobyan (kata). Elena Frolova-Trufanyan took 3rd place in the individual kata competition.
In the 16-17 age group, Vahe Hovhannisyan took 2nd place in the kumite competition. In the U-14 age group, Mark Sukiasyan took first place in the kata competition and third place in the kumite competition.
In the girls' competition, Maria Kasyan took first place in the individual kata and 2nd place in the kumite. The Armenian team also included international referee Rafael Hoveyan. The Armenian team left for the competition under the leadership of the federation's president, Suren Matevosyan.
