The Chess Federation of Armenia announced that 3 of the 16 chess players who have reached the 1/8 finals of the 2025 FIDE Chess World Cup are Armenian grandmasters: Gabriel Sargsyan, Levon Aronian, and Samuel Sevian.
Grandmaster Gabriel Sargsyan, representing Armenia, will compete in the 1/8 finals against Uzbek grandmaster Nodirbek Yakubboev. Grandmaster Levon Aronian, representing the United States, will compete against Indian grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi. Grandmaster Samuel Sevian, representing the United States, will compete against Chinese grandmaster Wei Yi.
The chess players who take 1st through 3rd place in the tournament will be eligible to participate in the 2026 Candidates Tournament.
