Argentine forward Lionel Messi of the American club Inter Miami has become the first player in football history to make 400 assists.

Messi reached this milestone in the Major League Soccer (MLS) round of 16 playoff match against the Nashville Predators. The hosts won 4-0. Messi also scored two goals and made one assist.

Messi has made the most assists for Barcelona (269). He has made 60 assists for his teammates for the Argentina national team, 37 for Inter Miami, and 34 for Paris Saint-Germain.

The 38-year-old Messi has played for Inter Miami since 2023. The Argentine has won eight Ballon d'Ors. With the Argentina national team, he won the 2022 World Cup, the Copa América (2021, 2024), the Finalissima (2022), and the Olympic Games (2008).

Inter Miami won the series against Nashville 2-1 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the playoffs. The team will next play Cincinnati.
