Argentina forward Lionel Messi has become the player with the most assists in football history. The Argentina captain provided two assists in a 6-0 win over Puerto Rico. With 60 assists, Messi has surpassed Neymar and Landon Donovan, who each had 58.
Messi made his first international assist at the age of 19, during Argentina's 6-0 win over Serbia at the 2006 World Cup.
Messi's eternal rival, 40-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, continues to break records. The Portuguese forward scored two goals in Portugal's 2-2 draw with Hungary. Ronaldo scored his 40th goal in World Cup qualifying, becoming the player with the most goals in qualifying.
In total, Ronaldo has scored 143 goals, taking his total goals for club and country to 947. He is just 53 goals away from becoming the first player to reach the 1,000-goal mark.
