The English Football Association has proposed changing the name of the Lev Yashin award. It is about the prize for the best goalkeeper of the year, established by France Football. The initiative was presented at a meeting of the UEFA executive committee in Albania, according to Sport24.
As an alternative, the British proposed the names of their legendary goalkeeper, Gordon Banks, and the Italian Dino Zoff.
Lev Yashin is considered one of the most famous goalkeepers in the history of football. He became the Olympic champion in 1956, won the gold medal of the USSR championship five times, and in 1960 won the European champion title with the national team. Yashin remains the only goalkeeper in history to have won the “Golden Ball”.
