The German national basketball team won the European Championship title, defeating Turkey 88-83 in the final match of the tournament held in Riga. Two years earlier, the Germans had become world basketball champions in the championship held in Manila.
The Germans became European basketball champions for the second time. They first won this title in 1993.
The decisive points were scored in the last minute by the team's captain, Dennis Schröder. He was later recognized as the best player of the match.
