Barcelona president Joan Laporta has announced that the initiators of the European Super League and UEFA have begun constructive talks to shape the future of European football jointly. According to him, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has already appointed negotiators who are in contact with the Super League's general director, Bernd Reichardt, and his legal team.
Laporta stressed that there is goodwill on both sides and that he continues to make efforts to build bridges of dialogue. He also recalled the European Court of Justice's decision, which he said supports the Super League's position, but at the same time stressed that the unity of the football world is most important.
Laporta added that the Super League's vision prioritizes open competitions and dignity, and he considers it realistic that this role should be handed over to the European Club Association in terms of governance.
He also stressed that their goal was never conflict: "We want to improve European football. UEFA has already made improvements with the new format of the Champions League, which has increased revenue by 20%."
