The Club World Cup will be held for the first time this summer in a new format: 32 clubs will participate.
According to The Guardian, FIFA will discuss expanding the Club World Cup to 48 teams if the current tournament is successful. The process is dictated by lobbying from clubs that will not participate in the competition this year.
It is noted that the Premier League clubs insist on removing the restriction so that only two clubs from the same country can participate in the tournament.
This restriction does not apply to teams that won continental competitions in 2021-24, so four representatives of Brazil, which won the Copa Libertadores, will attend the 2025 Club World Cup simultaneously.
It is assumed that the expansion of the Club World Cup will be perceived positively by European clubs but will meet resistance from the International Federation of Professional Footballers' Associations (FIFPro).
Recall that the 2025 Club World Cup will be held from June 14 to July 13.
