Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe has been elected as the new president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). She is the first woman to hold the position.
Kirsty Coventry, 41, is a two-time Olympic champion, Zimbabwe’s sports minister, and the country’s most decorated athlete.
Thomas Bach, president of the IOC since 2013, will step down this summer. The new president will take office on June 24.
