Pan-Armenian Games: Tehran team wins snowball fight tournament

The Armenian Ski Federation reported that on the third day of the Second Pan-Armenian Winter Games, the cross-country skiing competitions in the 2x3x1.2 km classic style team sprint competition ended on February 4.

Vaselina Khachatryan and Erik Avetisyan, representatives of Sochi and Vanadzor, took first place. The teams of Ashotsk, Tadevos Poghosyan-Katya Galstyan, and Mikael Mikaelyan-Anahit Margaryan took second and third place, respectively.

Notably, most of the medals at stake in the three-day competitions in this sport—12 medals—were won by skiers representing Ashotsk (3 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze medals).

The classic-style cross-country skiing competitions were held on February 3. In the men's competition, the first place was taken by the multiple champions of Armenia, Mikael Mikaelyan; second place by Spartak Voskanyan; and Tadevos Poghos completed the top three. All three represent Ashotsk. In the women's competition, Vaseline Khachatryan took first place, Katya Galstyan took second, and Roza Simonyan, a representative of Gyumri, completed the top three.

Earlier, Mikael Mikaelyan, an Armenian cross-country skiing team member, won the men's freestyle. Spartak Voskanyan took second place, and Tadevos Poghosyan completed the top three. In the women's freestyle, Katya Galstyan, the multiple champion of Armenia, took first place. Vaselina Khachatryan took second place, and Roza Simonyan completed the top three.

The snowmobile tournament, in which 18 teams participated, ended within the Second Pan-Armenian Winter Games framework. For the first time in the Games, the Tehran team was declared the winner of the snowball fight tournament included in the program. The Jermuk team took second place, and the team from the Khoy community of the Armavir region completed the top three.

Yesterday, on February 3, a hockey tournament was launched in Yerevan within the framework of the Second Pan-Armenian Winter Games, which is being held in a round-robin format. 4 teams from Volgograd, Montreal, Nakhichevan-on-Don, and Yerevan are participating in the tournament. Volgograd, Nakhichevan-on-Don, Montreal, and Yerevan competed on the first day of the competition. The Nakhichevan-on-Don team won 8:3 over the Volgograd team. The Yerevan team won 10:6 over the Montreal team. In today's games, the Nakhichevan-on-Don team won 16:8 over the Yerevan team, and the Volgograd team won 4:1 over the Montreal team.

The teams will play the final games tomorrow. Yerevan will compete with the Volgograd team, and the Don Nakhichevan team will play Montreal.

Chess competitions also continue to be part of the games. 150 chess players participate in the men's championship and 50 in the women's championship. The competitions of the sport with the most significant number of participants in the second Pan-Armenian Winter Games are held according to the Swiss system, with 9 rounds; each participant is given 15 minutes until the end of the game, with a 5-second increment starting from the first move. The international and national ratings of the participants must not exceed 2300 for men and 2250 for women. Chess players from all regions of Armenia, several cities in Russia, and European cities are participating in the games.

The Second Pan-Armenian Winter Games dance sports tournament has about 250 participants from 7 age groups, 8 countries, 9 regions, and 29 cities. The youngest participants are 5 years old and from Gyumri and New Delhi.

The finals of the dance sports will be held on the evening of February 4. The competition program includes ballroom dances: "Waltz," "Tango," and "Quickstep," and Latin American dances: "Cha-cha," "Samba," "Rumba," "Pasadoble," and "Jive."

The skiing and snowboarding competitions scheduled for the Second Pan-Armenian Winter Games will be held at the Mayler Mountain Resort ski area in Aparan on February 5 and 6.
