In Round 1 of the 2024 World Chess Championship, world champion Ding Liren defeated Gukesh Dommaraju with black pieces. This was Ding's first victory in classical chess since January 27 this year.
It is also interesting that the last time the first match of the World Championship ended in victory was in 2010. Vishy Anand lost to Veselin Topalov in that match but became the champion.
