Lasha Talakhadze will miss the World Weightlifting Championship for the first time since 2015. He has barely trained since winning his third Olympic gold three months ago. The Georgian weightlifter did not appear among the participants of the World Cup finals to be held in Bahrain, where the World Championship will be held from December 6-15, 2024.
Instead of working out in the gym, the Georgian weightlifter, the most successful weightlifter of the 21st century and perhaps one of the sport's most famous athletes, has focused on politics. Shortly before the start of the World Cup, he is due to become a member of Parliament, and the possibility of a new career in this field is being discussed.
It still needs to be determined whether 31-year-old Lasha can engage in politics and continue his career as a heavyweight.
It should be noted that Talakhadze was elected as a member of the Georgian Parliament by the ruling "Georgian Dream" party.
