"Ajax" hosted the Greek "Panathinaikos" in the return match of the third qualifying round of the Europa League. The Dutch club won the first match 1:0.
In the return match, the Greek team scored a goal in the 89th minute. The confrontation was moved to extra time and then a penalty shootout.
In the penalty shootout, each team came close 17 times. "Ajax" won 13: 12.
It should be noted that both goalkeepers, 40-year-old Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer and Bartłomiej Drągowski from Panathinaikos, approached the penalty spot and saved it.
The score of this penalty shootout (13:12) is one of the biggest in the history of European Cups. Only Glentoran-Gzira United has scored more goals in the conference league (13:14).
