The women's and men's weightlifting teams of Armenia will take part in the 88th World Championship, which is a ranking for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, on September 4-17 in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
More than 700 athletes from 120 countries have applied for the championship.
As part of the men's team, Gor Sahakyan (67 kg), Rafik Harutyunyan (81 kg), Andranik Karapetyan (89 kg), Davit Hovhannisyan, Hakob Mkrtchyan (both 96 kg), Garik Karapetyan, and Samvel Gasparyan (both 102 kg) went to the competition.
The women's team includes Alexandra Grigoryan, Izabela Yailian (both 55 kg), Liana Gyurjian (81 kg), Tatev Hakobyan, and Hripsime Khurshudyan (both 87 kg).
Alexandra Grigoryan and Izabela Yailyan will be the first representatives of Armenia to take the stage. Their competition in the 55 kg category is scheduled for September 6, starting at 20:00.
57 kg Gor Sahakyan will fight as part of the men's team on September 7. The start of competitions in this weight category is also scheduled at 20:00.
