An international freestyle wrestling tournament will be held in Yerevan

On June 14-17, Yerevan will host the 25th international freestyle wrestling tournament dedicated to Stepan Sargsyan, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, Olympic silver medalist, and European champion.

The government has decided to provide 49,460.0 thousand drams to organize and hold the tournament. According to the rationale, freestyle wrestling has succeeded dramatically in recent years. In 2023 Arsen Harutyunyan and Vazgen Tevanyan became European champions in 2022. Arsen Harutyunyan, Vazgen Tevanyan, the youth and under-23 world champions, and Mushegh Mkrtchyan and Lyova Gevorgyan became the European youth winners. Considering all these circumstances and the traditions and ways of development of the Armenian Wrestling Federation, the International Federation proposed to hold the international freestyle wrestling tournament dedicated to Stepan Sargsyan in Armenia.

One hundred forty participants from 15 countries are expected to participate in the international tournament. The holding of an international game has its essential place in the development and popularization of sports, as a result of which the Republic of Armenia will become more recognizable on global sports platforms as a leading country, ensuring the increase of the country's sports prestige, the strengthening of Armenia-Diaspora ties. At the same time, it will contribute to the development of cultural values and tourism, including the restoration of hotels, cultural centers, and sports facilities, contributing in turn to the parallel development of the economy.
