Three-time world football champion Pele has died

The Associated Press reported that the legendary Brazilian football player Edson Arantes do Nascimento, Pele, has died. He was 82 years old.

Pele is the only player in history to win the World Cup three times as a player (1958, 1962, 1970).

He was in the Guinness Book of Records for the most goals in his professional career; according to some reports, he scored 1281 goals.

Pele is the best scorer in the history of the Brazilian national team, having scored 77 goals in 92 matches.

He represented the Brazilian "Santos" for 18 years, after which he played for the American "New York Cosmos" for another 3 years, ending his career in 1977.

In September 2021, Pele was diagnosed with a colon tumor. He was hospitalized in November. It was later reported that Pele's body stopped responding to chemotherapy.
