Armenia will host the World Adult Sambo Championship

The 2023 Adult World Sambo Championship will be held on November 10-12 in Yerevan. This was announced by the International Federation of Sambo, FIAS.

"The members of the FIAS executive committee decided to approve Armenia's candidacy, taking into account the successful experience of holding the World Sambo Championship for teenagers, young adults, and youth in Yerevan in October of this year," says the message released by FIAS.

After the championship held in Yerevan, RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Karen Giloyan suggested to the President of FIAS to have the Adult National Championship in Yerevan. It should be noted that in 2023, the European weightlifting adult championship will also be held in Yerevan.

"The government of Armenia has been working hard to encourage the organization of big sports events in recent years. It was unprecedented in the history of Armenia to hold the European Boxing Championship in our country. Even in Soviet Armenia, such a competition was not held. After the Boxing Championship, we held the Sambo Youth World Championship at a very high level. Next year we will hold the senior world championship. The year 2023, as you know, will be very important for weightlifting because the adult European championship will be held, which will be a ranking for the Paris Olympic Games," said Deputy Minister Karen Giloyan, presenting the state policy in the field.

On October 14-16, 2022, the World Sambo Championship for teenagers, young people, and young people was held at the sports concert complex Karen Demirchyan in Yerevan. About 500 sportsmen and women from more than 20 countries fought for 55 sets of medals for three days. The World Sambo Championship included youth combat sambo competitions for the first time.

Armenian national teams performed successfully in the World Championship, winning 20 medals: 1 gold, two silver, and 17 bronze.
