The Brazilian was unexpectedly hospitalized at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo; he previously underwent research there. The former soccer player was diagnosed with generalized edema, including decompensated heart failure and confusion.

Pele, 82, was hospitalized twice in 2022 at the Albert Einstein Clinic for procedures related to treating three malignant tumors (bowel, liver, and lung) and a urinary tract infection.
