Armenian weightlifters won 15 double medals at the European U20 and U23 Championship

Armenia's youth weightlifting teams finished the European U20 and U23 Championship held in Durres, Albania, with 15 medals.

Super heavyweight Varazdat Lalayan was the last among the representatives of Armenia to take the stage and was declared the champion in the U23 competition with a result of 440 kg (200 + 240) in the double event. The Armenian weightlifter also stood on the first step of the podium in the snatch and push exercises.

Among the representatives of Armenia, Gor Sahakyan (67 kg, U20), Milena Khachatryan (76 kg, U20), Liana Gyurjian (81 kg, U20), Suren Grigoryan (89 kg, U20), Garik Karapetyan (96 kg, U20) also won the champion title. ), Ara Aghanyan (96 kg, U23), Emma Poghosyan (81 kg), Petros Petrosyan (102 kg, U20), Julieta Avanesyan (+87 kg, U20), and Yasha Minasyan (109 kilograms, U23) became runners-up. Rafik Minasyan (61 kg, U20), Mnatsakan Abrahamyan (81 kg, U20), Mary Tumasyan (87 kg, U20) and Luiza Sahradian (87 kg, U23) won bronze medals.

Sahakyan (67 kg, U20) won Armenia's first gold medal at the European U20 and U23 Championship. The Armenian weightlifter was declared the dual event winner with 301 kg (134+167). It is noteworthy that Sahakyan won a small silver medal in both the snatch and the push exercise and the gold medal in the doubles. Turkish representatives Yusuf Genc (298 kg) and Kan Kahriman (293 kilograms) took second and third place in this weight category.

Milena Khachatryan won the first gold medal in the women's fight of the U20 tournament. In the battle of 76 kg, the Armenian sportswoman registered a result of 219 kg (99+120) in the double event and was also recognized as the best in snatch and push exercises.

In the women's 81 kg weight category of the U20 tournament, Liana Gyurjian won the European championship with 223 kg (98+125) in the doubles. Gyurjian also won miniature gold medals in snatch and push exercises.

Suren Grigoryan (89 kg) won the European Championship with 340 kg (155+185) in the U20 tournament. The Armenian weightlifter won a silver medal in the snatch and a small gold medal in the push. Grigoryan surpassed Turkish weightlifters Kurnaz Chan (339 kg) and Kurnaz Hakan Shukru (337 kg), who won the silver and bronze medals.

Garik Karapetyan won the gold medal in the boys' 96 kg competition of the U20 tournament with a result of 367 kg (171+196) in the two-fight event, also winning in the snatch and push exercises. The second place was taken by Turkish Ozturk Emre, who lost to Karapetyan by 27 kg.

Ara Aghanyan also won gold medals in the U23 tournament. The latter won the title of champion in the 96 kg category with 363 kg (168+195) results in the two-fight event and the snatch and push exercises.

Armenia participated in the European Under-20 and Under-23 Championship with 23 weightlifters.
