RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Karen Giloyan received the collaborative team of the National Paralympic Committee of Armenia, headed by the chairman of the committee, Hakob Abrahamyan.
The team participated in the Paralympic Summer Games held in Sochi, whose motto this year was "We are together. sports 2022". One thousand two hundred athletes from 12 countries participated in the games. The national team of Armenia consisted of 9 athletes and four organizers.
Karen Giloyan, the deputy minister of ESCS, welcomed the athletes and highlighted their participation in various competitions.
"It's great that you're starting to have success. Let's work together more sincerely, openly, and honestly to achieve better results. Paralympic sports are essential for us," said the deputy minister and added that the project of the Government's decision to open an adaptive sports center is under development.
The games included sports: athletics, swimming, table tennis, archery, para-taekwondo, wheelchair fencing, football, checkers, and chess. The Armenian team participated in 4 sports: swimming, para-taekwondo, table tennis, and track and field (cart racing). Athletes of the national team of Armenia won 6 medals.
Smbat Karapetyan won 2 silver medals, and Arman Sargsyan - won 2 bronze medals in wheelchair racing. Tigran Petrosyan and Naira Aghabekyan won bronze medals in table tennis doubles and taekwondo, respectively.
Within the framework of this sports event, meetings were also held between the presidents of the Paralympic Committees of several countries, in which the advisor of the Russian President Oleg Levitin, the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Igor Matitsyn and the President of the Russian Paralympic Committee Pavel Rozhkov also participated.
Prospects of cooperation were discussed. The participation of the Armenian team was supported by the Paralympic Committee and "Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine" CJSC.
