Political commentator Hakob Badalyan wrote on his Facebook page.
"Armenia has a widespread opinion that the West will take responsibility for security when the Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Azerbaijani relations are settled.
But the whole point is that Armenia needs allied external responsible support in terms of security right before that, not after that, because Armenia, with its potential, cannot provide such a minimum balance of forces that can be the basis of any genuine settlement. The cause of regulation is not paper but the balance of power. When out of balance, the pieces quickly "crumple."
Here, it is precisely for the realism of the balanced settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian-Turkish relations that Armenia needs the responsible support of external allies, naturally, to make the most of its potential.
The West, no doubt, knows this, but it does not need to assume this responsibility because it means becoming a side against Azerbaijan and Turkey.
It is almost "ideal" for the West when this responsibility falls on Russia, especially Russia, which is currently mired in problems for which it has become an almost impossible burden.
Therefore, the West is the primary beneficiary of maintaining this state of affairs. The "responsibility" for Armenia should remain on Russia, and Russia should not get out of that "hole."
The Russians, of course, cannot "absolutely" refuse this responsibility, but, on the other hand, they have also chosen the scenario of tactical information while reacting sharply to Western activity - EU observers, the Washington process, etc., which will put the "responsibility" on the West are the method. It is, of course, a fragile method, but the Russians have no other options.
Under these conditions, what to do in Armenia is extremely difficult and at least requires playing in all possible directions. Moreover, in each order, maybe even play with several "lines," find the opportunity to do so.
