The former deputy of the NKR Central Committee, publicist Vahram Atanesyan, wrote on his Facebook page.
"The first serious conspiracy against our people was organized in 1996. There was no logic that the government that won the cruelest war with Azerbaijan two years ago and saved Nagorno-Karabakh and its Armenian population from loss, destruction, or total deportation might not be acceptable to most people. The opposition went to implementing the plan to delegitimize and discredit the authority and political power embodying the military and political success of the Armenian people, to delegitimize the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and to marginalize the Armenian state internationally. It did not succeed; politically, Armenia was hurt.
President Ter-Petrosyan tried to recover from the loss at the OSCE Lisbon summit. And if the international community understood him and, to a certain extent, even "met" him, not subjecting Armenia to isolation or sanctions in return for the veto, the domestic opposition did not digest its fiasco, could not put the state's interest above its maliciousness, or continued to be a henchman of foreign forces and died on February 3, 1998. The history of the world does not know a second such case when the leader who won the war is accused of defeatism. It's just "Armenian nonsense" circulating today in all its horror. Can you imagine that in Artsakh, the president is being asked to block the movement of citizens to and from Armenia? "Death or freedom?"... Don't be shy. The conspiracy continues."
