In connection with the statement made during the press conference called by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia, Khalil Shirgholami, regarding the protests taking place in front of the Iranian Embassy in the Republic of Armenia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia informs that the Republic of Armenia, within the framework of the provisions of the “Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations”, as well as other international and bilateral obligations, ensures the security of all diplomatic missions accredited in the Republic of Armenia, including the Embassy of the friendly Islamic Republic of Iran, and guarantees the necessary conditions for regular activity.
“There is a permanent working relationship with the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Republic of Armenia on the subject matter. It should also be noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs oversaw all the mentioned gatherings in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure, and the security of both participants and the embassy building was ensured. It should also be noted that during one of the gatherings, a participant was subjected to administrative arrest for committing an act provided for in Article 182 of the RA Code on Administrative Offenses (Failure to comply with a lawful request of a police officer).
The Ministry of Internal Affairs will continue to serve peaceful gatherings in accordance with the procedure prescribed by law. At the same time, the Republic of Armenia, as a democratic state, is obliged not to impede the exercise of the right to freedom of movement and peaceful assembly by citizens within the framework of the RA Constitution, the Law on Freedom of Assembly, and international obligations,” the statement says.
