Armenia returns man sentenced to two life sentences for mercenary service in 44-day war
The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia announced:
“On January 14, 2026, citizens of the Syrian Arab Republic, Yousef Alaabet al-Hajji and Muhrab Muhammad al-Shkheri, sentenced to life imprisonment in the Republic of Armenia, were transferred through the Republic of Turkey to the competent authorities of the Syrian Arab Republic to continue the further execution of the sentences imposed on them in their country of citizenship. The transfer was carried out in cooperation between the relevant competent authorities and within the framework of applicable legal mechanisms.”
Let us recall that they were sentenced to life imprisonment for participating in military operations against Nagorno-Karabakh as mercenaries-terrorists in the 44-day war in 2020.
