The Yerevan Civil Court concluded the hearing of the lawsuit filed by Samvel Shahramanyan against Nzhdeh Hovsepyan and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia today. The court has retired to the consultation room to make a decision.
Samvel Shahramanyan, as we recall, had appealed to the court, claiming that the sentence in the 9th-grade history textbook that "the President of the NKR signed a decree on the dissolution of the NKR" is false, slanderous, and insulting.
The co-author of the textbook, historian Nzhdeh Hovsepyan, notes that the sentence is a quotation from the Artsakh Information Headquarters' statement.
"According to their logic, if I wrote about it, it is slanderous, and if Shahramanyan, politicians, Artsakh officials, etc., say about it, they are not spreading falsehoods.
They present it as if there is only one sentence about it in the textbook, and that is it. Meanwhile, this is not the case. What is written is a fact, not an interpretation. After all, if it is written according to everyone's wishes, what will it turn out to be? Is it a textbook, a memoir, or an encyclopedia? " he said.
According to Hovsepyan, "I understood from the plaintiff's speech that they only want the text to be written with the words and thoughts they want. This is already a historical dispute, not a matter for trial.
This is an attempt at political pressure to be exemplary so that no one dares to write about these issues. And if they get confused and write, they will either write according to their wishes or run away from these topics for miles so as not to appear in court."
