Armenian-born grandmaster Levon Aronian, who now plays for the United States, has had several notable victories in chess in 2025.
He won three major titles:
- In July, at the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Las Vegas tournament ($200,000 prize pool), I defeated Hans Niemann in the final.
- in August, at the Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz tournament as part of the Grand Chess Tour ($40,000 prize pool);
- In December, at the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Final Cape Town tournament (South Africa, $200,000 prize pool), he defeated Magnus Carlsen in the final, 1.5:0.5.
