The Yerevan Municipality's administrative session discussed the snow removal work carried out over the weekend.
Mayor's Advisor Kamo Areyan reported that city services were prepared for the snowfall in advance, and snow removal work began on time.
"The work was supervised on site by the heads of administrative districts all night long. Without exception, the heads of all 12 administrative districts were on site and working," he noted.
According to Areyan, street cleaning continued throughout the day yesterday. He emphasized that the heaviest work was done last night.
"The heaviest work, strange as it may seem, was not so much working in the continuous snowfall of the first night, but the sharp drop in temperature last night. We did everything to prevent any problems from arising in the city," he said, adding that the work will continue today as well, cleaning sidewalks and yards.
Responding, Mayor Tigran Avinyan noted, "Indeed, this time our response was more prompt, and we were better prepared. However, given that heavy precipitation is expected on New Year's Eve, we still have no time to rest in this regard. Our equipment and duty officers must be ready so that the city remains passable.
There are still problems on the elevated sections of some secondary streets. In the event of a sharp drop in temperature, salt and sand often do not help; however, it is necessary to plan specific actions."
