The largest reserve of frozen water outside the North and South Poles

Levon Azizyan, Director of the Center for Hydrometeorology and Monitoring SNCO, writes:

"The 'Third Pole' is a conventional name for the region where, according to the Himalayan Climate and Water Resources Atlas, about 6,000 cubic kilometers of glacial ice are concentrated. This is the largest reserve of frozen water outside the North and South Poles.

It is a water reservoir of exceptional value, uniting Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, and Nepal, as well as the 10 largest rivers of Asia, from the Indus to the Yangtze."
