The Ministry of Internal Affairs' efforts in the visa liberalization process were highly appreciated

Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan met with EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner during her visit to the Kingdom of Belgium.

Arpine Sargsyan thanked Magnus Brunner for his leadership and constructive engagement in the EU visa liberalization process and emphasized that Armenia is committed to implementing the Action Plan benchmarks in a high-quality, due-process manner.

Minister Sargsyan noted that the first EU mission to assess the implementation of the Action Plan is in Armenia, and that issues related to the legal and policy implementation of the benchmarks will be discussed.

The Minister of Internal Affairs also touched on the implementation of several measures outlined in the Action Plan, in particular by presenting tangible steps to introduce a biometric system, universal health insurance, and other initiatives.

Arpine Sargsyan, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with EU structures Frontex and Europol, noted that the candidacy of a liaison officer will be submitted to Europol in the near future.

EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, thanked Minister of Internal Affairs, Arpine Sargsyan, for joining the Global Alliance against Smuggling of Migrants and for delivering a message at the international conference.
The EU Commissioner thanked the Minister for ensuring constructive dialogue on visa liberalization as the country’s chief negotiator.

Details of Magnus Brunner’s visit to Armenia in March 2026 were discussed.

Stressing the constructive cooperation, Magnus Brunner noted that he was looking forward to his visit to Armenia.
Issues of mutual interest were also discussed, and the bilateral commitment to continue practical cooperation was emphasized.
