The government decided to declare tourist villages among the unreported projects at today's session.
The purpose of the decision to declare tourist villages is to encourage rural settlements to achieve the status of a tourist village in accordance with international best practices, ensure centralized, systematic management of tourist destinations, bring villages with tourism potential into line with international standards, value and protect the landscapes, biodiversity, tangible and intangible cultural diversity, and local values of the given settlement environment.
According to the decision, Armenia's current tourism infrastructure, particularly outside Yerevan, does not provide sufficient capacity to serve a larger number of high-solvency tourists. In particular, the coordinated development of tourist destinations remains in its early stages in Armenia; it is necessary to develop tourist routes and centers (clusters) with new thematic directions.
