Creating a violence-free environment in Armenia is an urgent need. Human Rights Defender

The results of the monitoring conducted by the Human Rights Defender’s staff indicate that various manifestations of violence are numerous in Armenia.

Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan strongly condemns any manifestation of violence.
It is undeniable that each case of violence must be investigated thoroughly and promptly, and that those responsible must be held accountable.
At the same time, the Defender notes that the above is a necessary but not sufficient condition.

Within the framework of the positive obligations assumed, the state must take necessary and sufficient measures to prevent each case of violence.

The Human Rights Defender also emphasizes that the current public environment in Armenia directly contributes to the spread of various manifestations of violence. Moreover, this does not refer to the activities of individual figures but to the overwhelming majority of actors engaged in public activities. Therefore, it is also necessary to make profound changes in the culture of public activity, including the logic of public discourse.

In light of the above, the Defender reaffirms his commitment to working with all stakeholders to develop and implement tools to prevent all forms of violence.

The Defender emphasizes that addressing the issue raised is agenda-driven and that its delay threatens public security and the strengthening of democratic values.
