Axios reports that the US presidential administration (Jared Kushner) is working to organize a summit between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The US is seeking to deepen economic ties between the two countries, hoping this will contribute to warmer regional relations and prevent future conflicts.
Netanyahu is reportedly expected to approve a $35 billion gas deal with Egypt, which would provide up to 25% of Egypt’s electricity.
Despite US efforts, President al-Sisi has so far been “cool” about the idea of a summit, avoiding public contact with the Israeli leadership since the Gaza war.
Jared Kushner has urged Netanyahu to show the region that Israel has more to offer after the war than just military action.
