On November 24, during the 25th session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, Armenia was elected to the World Heritage Committee for the first time.
In the round of elections for vacant seats, Armenia recorded the best result, receiving 105 votes out of a possible 161, which attests to the international community's high level of confidence in Armenia's preservation of cultural heritage.
By assuming membership in the World Heritage Committee, Armenia reaffirmed its commitment to international efforts to protect, conserve, and restore cultural and natural heritage, as well as to the fundamental principles of the World Heritage Convention.
