Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sent a telegram of condolences to the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, on the death of Nikita Simonyan.
“Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, I learned with deep sorrow about the death of the legendary football player, honored coach, honored master of sports, and four-time champion of the USSR Nikita Pavel Simonyan.
Being an outstanding football player and coach, he wrote his name in golden letters in the history of Armenian and Soviet football. It was under his leadership that Yerevan’s “Ararat” became the champion and two-time USSR Cup winner in 1973 and 1975, giving all Armenians an unforgettable sense of pride.
For his long and eventful career, Nikita Simonyan was also awarded state awards of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation. His achievements, professionalism, and dedication to football will serve as a source of inspiration for many generations.
I ask you, on behalf of the Armenian people and personally, to convey words of condolences and support to the family and close friends of Nikita Simonyan,” the telegram states.
