In the NA, Minister of Finance Vahe Hovhannisyan addressed the 2026 state budget and debt of the Republic of Armenia.
"In 2026, we expect 5.4% economic growth, almost reaching the 12 trillion level of GDP, which exceeds our initial forecasts," said Vahe Hovhannisyan, and added that even the International Monetary Fund has raised its growth forecast for Armenia to 5.5% economic growth.
Speaking about the state debt, the Minister emphasized that the debt policy is stable: "Opposition circles say that our state debt has doubled, but it has increased by 80 percent. In this context, I would like to reiterate that the debt is intended to enhance the economic potential of our state. "The state debt of Armenia has increased by 80 percent, but it will be possible to repay it in 1.5 years," he said, emphasizing that if it is decided to repay the debt taken out after 2018 in 1.5 years, then the Ministry of Defense's spending will have to be reduced by 429 billion.
