The RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that the resolution on the International Day of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), submitted by Armenia, was adopted during the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand.
Armenia's initiative to establish the International Day of Small Island Developing States was supported and co-authored by about 130 UNESCO Member States. The resolution highlights the vulnerabilities of Small Island Developing States and underscores the need for international attention, solidarity, and support. The document establishes April 25 as the International Day of Small Island Developing States.
On the occasion of the adoption of the resolution, Ambassador Aram Hakobyan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to UNESCO, thanked the General Conference and the co-sponsoring states of the resolution for their unanimous support for the document, and also reaffirmed Armenia's continued commitment to addressing the needs of Small Island Developing States in its capacity as a co-founder and co-chair of the UNESCO Group of Friends of the Small Island Developing States.
