Levon Azizyan, Director of the Center for Hydrometeorology and Monitoring SNCO, wrote on his social media page:
"For two consecutive nights, on October 6 and 7, one of the most beautiful moons of the year will be visible, the first autumn supermoon.
The next full moon, which will be visible on the next two consecutive nights (October 6-7 and October 7-8), is expected to be one of the most beautiful of the year. The full moon will be at its closest point to the Earth in its orbit and, accordingly, will appear in the sky close to its maximum size. Although these changes are relatively small (the largest moon is only 13% larger than the smallest), the difference in brightness can reach 25% or more, which is usually quite noticeable.
The exact moment of the full moon falls on October 7, at 07:47 Yerevan time. This means that for the territory of the Republic of Armenia, the nights of October 6-7 and the following October 7-8 will be uniformly favorable for observing the moon in terms of Moon illumination and relatively low cloud cover. Only in the regions of Lori and Tavush on the 6th of the month, cloud cover may prevent the enjoyment of this spectacle. On the 7th, conditions will be more favorable for observing the supermoon.
The supermoon season usually lasts 3-4 full moons in a row. The moon will reach its most excellent brightness in November (on the 5th) and December (on the 4th), although this is only a 2-3% difference. The last formal supermoon will occur on January 3.
P.S.: In the English tradition, the October moon is known as the Harvest Moon. "So, if anyone hasn't pulled out their potatoes yet, it's high time to do so."
